Norrköping resident Per Jonsson first got involved with music at 15 years of age, playing in various pop and rock bands. He gradually became more interested in computer-generated music, especially music that would combine influences of jazz and improvisation with programmed rhythms and elements. The goal of his own creation is to fuse the two together to the point where they become an organic whole and you can no longer hear the difference between live instruments and programmed parts. The ambition is to make the composed feel spontaneous, and make it resemble the constant movements and evolution of life itself; never stand still or fall into molds and stereotypes. Kind of like Bruce Lee’s martial arts, Jeet Kune Do – a style that’s not a style, with a will to explore the new while also respecting the proven, and always focusing on maintaining a flow. It must never be a concept or principle, there must always be an element of emotion, and also a certain accessibility. Preybird’s major sources of inspiration include artists like Amon Tobin, Squarepusher, Aphex twin and St. Germain as well as jazz musicians like John Coltrane and Miles Davis.
